Champs Hold Off Pesky Raiders at The Stable

BELL BUCKLE, TN – The Cascade Champions had to dig a little deeper than they might have expected coming into Tuesday night’s rivalry matchup with Moore County, but in the end the hometown Champs pulled away in the fourth quarter to pick up their fourth win of the season, 61-49.

The Raiders, who came in winless through their first three games of the year, were led by senior Peyton Martin’s game-high 16 points. Senior guard, Jay Sparkman, provided a spark from deep, connecting on four three-pointers on the night en route to 12 points. Gavin Wise chipped in with nine points as well, but in the end it wasn’t enough to overcome the balanced attack from the Champs.

Cascade saw three players score in double-figures as well as two others score at least eight points. Jason Cullum led the way with a team-high 15 points while Noah Watson and Tyler Barrett contributed with 11 points and 10 points, respectively. Junior guard Tyler Rodgers finished with nine points, and freshman forward Cooper McElroy connected on a pair of three-pointers en route to eight points off the bench. Kaleb Kelso, who came in leading the team averaging 16 points per game, finished with just three points, all coming in the fourth quarter.

It was a slow and sloppy start for both sides in the opening period, but things were tied up at 11 after the first eight minutes of play. Cascade started to wake up in the second quarter, outscoring Moore County, 13-8, to take a 24-19 lead into the halftime locker room.

In the third quarter, Cascade outscored the Raiders by a single point, 15-14, to take a flimsy 39-33 lead going into the final frame. The Champs’ pushed their lead out to as much as 11 points in the period, but Sparkman connected on a pair of three-pointers to keep Moore County within striking distance.

However, in the final frame, Cascade hunkered down and pulled away, exploding for 22 points in the fourth quarter to put the finishing touches on the Raiders, 61-49.

Moore County falls to 0-4 on the season.

Cascade improves to 4-3 overall and will play at Fayetteville City on Friday night, LIVE on The Zinger 100.9 and AM 1400 starting at 5:45 p.m.
