Cheeseman repeats as state champ, Lady Feet finish 2nd

HENDERSONVILLE — Last season, Webb’s Abby Faith Cheeseman burst onto the high school cross country scene with her first high school cross country state title, posting the best time of any of the four girls’ classifications.
She, along with the rest of her Lady Feet teammates, saw improvements as she repeated as state champion, once again posting the fastest time in the state of any classification.
Cheeseman turned in a 17:12.53 time to win the Division II Class A state title on Friday morning at Sanders Ferry Park.
Cheeseman’s time on Friday was a 14-second improvement from the 2021 state championship time.
While Cheeseman blistered the trail, with the second-place finisher from St. George’s finishing 1:21 behind her, the Lady Feet saw an improvement overall as a team.
Last year, Webb finished fourth overall, but saw a jump in production this year with a second-place team finish.
Webb sophomore Sophie McInturff finished fifth overall and crossed the finish line in 20:48, while eighth-grader Henley Pritchard finished in 21:01, good enough for seventh overall.
Macy Simon, Sydney Davenport and Sasha Decker followed to cross the line for the Lady Feet scorers.
While most teams making a push at a state title are senior laden, the Lady Feet state meet team in 2022 was made up entirely of sophomores, freshmen and eighth-graders.
