TULLAHOMA, TN – The Shelbyville Central Golden Eagles kept things close for a half, but a 22-point third quarter from the hometown Tullahoma Wildcats ended up being the difference in a 60-41 loss on Tuesday night.

Xavier Farrell scored 14 of his game-high 24 points in the third quarter, single-handedly outscoring the Golden Eagles by himself. He connected on a pair of three-pointers as well as a trio of two-point field goals. Jayden Thompson and Khani Johnson chipped in with 16 points and 14 points apiece for Tullahoma as well. Thompson scored eight of his 16 points in the first quarter.

For Shelbyville, Tae’Shawn Shelton was the only player to score in double-figures after Monday night’s two-point loss to Summit. Shelton finished with 12 points, but struggled at the free throw line, finishing 2/7 from the charity stripe on the night. Jordan Taylor scored nine points on the night while Jevon Lee chipped in with eight points of his own.

Tullahoma came out of the gates aggressively, outscoring Shelbyville Central, 17-12, in the opening period behind Thompson’s eight points.

In the second quarter, the Wildcats only scored nine points, but their defense held Shelbyville to eight points of their own to take a tenuous 26-20 lead into the halftime locker room.

Unfortunately for the Golden Eagles, Tullahoma came out of halftime on a mission, especially Farrell, who completely took over in the third quarter. Farrell scored 14 points in a variety of ways, sparking his team to a 22-point quarter that Shelbyville simply could not match. Shelton and Lee each scored four points in the period, but the Golden Eagles only managed to score 12 points as a team, heading into the final frame trailing by 16 points, 48-32.

The fourth quarter ended up being a formality as Tullahoma outscored Shelbyville, 12-11, to take home the win, 60-41.

Tullahoma improves to 3-1 on the year.

Shelbyville Central falls to 4-2 overall with their next game scheduled for Friday night at home against the Siegel Stars, LIVE on WLIJ 98.7 starting at 5:45 p.m.
